The DCL attests to language skills necessary to carry out activities in a professional context, in accordance with the CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and its various levels.

What sets it apart from many language certifications is that it assesses language competence in a cross-sectoral context applicable to all professional fields, aligning with CEFR criteria in the context of a specific task.

One unique aspect of the DCL is that the candidate does not need to specify the level at which they wish to be evaluated beforehand; it's the performance level that determines the language proficiency level in alignment with CEFR. The DCL, therefore, follows a positive evaluation approach.

Another distinctive feature of the DCL is that the assessment within this task covers all language activities, including oral and written comprehension, written and oral expression, and oral interaction.

The mission unfolds as a sequence of tasks and language-related activities interconnected with each other. These activities are contextualized by placing them in a professional setting and utilizing authentic written or audio documents. They are not organized separately, as in many certifications.

The languages offered in the DCL are among the most commonly used in the national business and professional context. The DCL was created specifically for adults and meets the needs of the professional world. It is open to employees, job seekers, vocational training participants, students, and individuals. It can be taken by someone seeking professional mobility, a European resident looking to work in France, an immigrant seeking integration into the professional world, or a refugee aiming to enter the workforce

Based on the competencies defined in the certification framework, all language skills necessary for carrying out professional activities are assessed:

Written and oral comprehension
Written and oral production
Interaction
Pragmatic and linguistic components of communication are evaluated.
Reading comprehension
Listening comprehension or French Sign Language (LSF)
Oral expression or expression in LSF
Written expression
Interaction in spoken language or LSF

The evaluation focuses on the candidate's ability to use the language in a situation as close to the reality of the workplace as possible. Language practice is as important as knowledge mastery.

The candidate is assessed on:

The effectiveness of communication to carry out their mission.
The linguistic quality of their performance.

A panel, consisting of inspectors, academics, and examiners, decides whether to award the diploma or not after the test. The diploma indicates a level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

From A1 to A2 for French. First-level Professional (FP)
From A2 to C1 for all other languages.

The test lasts 2 hours and only 1.5 hours for French Professional (FP). It involves a case study where various tasks are performed consecutively, similar to professional life, based on a scenario. The work includes:

Reading documents.
Listening to audio documents or watching LSF videos.
Processing the information obtained.
Presenting conclusions (reporting information for FP).
Supporting these conclusions (responding to requests for clarification for FP).
Writing a summary (a brief written piece in French for FP) or creating an LSF video.

For LSF, the activities conducted by the candidate are mainly based on videos and LSF video calls

The CLOE English certification attests to a person's ability to communicate in everyday or professional situations.

CLOE certification results are referenced to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is an international standard for describing language proficiency. It consists of a scale for assessing language mastery, with 6 levels: from A1 (elementary) to C2 (proficient).

This scale serves as the European reference for language learning, teaching, and level assessment in many countries, promoting educational and professional mobility. CLOE certification results are translated into competencies. Below is an example of the overall competency scale by level.

Analyzing Short Texts: The individual can analyze short written texts, identifying key language elements and ensuring their accuracy. They can use these elements in everyday and professional writing, using appropriate common or professional vocabulary suited to the context. They can also employ essential grammatical structures to construct coherent and varied sentences. Furthermore, they can communicate effectively in everyday or professional situations, using appropriate expressions.

Analyzing Short Written Texts: The person can analyze short written texts to extract key information, whether it's for a general context or a specific professional scenario. This includes reading and comprehending short texts, as well as written dialogues or messages. The individual can grasp the overall meaning and specific details and can read instructions or a series of events to define the necessary action or outcome.

Analyzing Short Spoken Utterances: The individual can analyze short spoken statements, dialogues, and oral communications to extract key information. This includes understanding announcements, recorded information, dialogues, or presentations. The person can determine the overall meaning and specific details, and can listen to a series of instructions or a presentation to define the required action or result.

Participating in Professional Oral Communication: The person can engage in oral communication with an interlocutor, discussing topics related to their profession or specific to their job. They can comprehend the statements, instructions, or questions from the interlocutor and respond appropriately. They use professional vocabulary relevant to the communication context and employ necessary grammatical structures to construct coherent and varied sentences as per the situation. They can communicate naturally about their work, experiences, and projects, ensuring clear pronunciation. Furthermore, they can promote interaction and dialogue in a professional setting.

National professional diploma registered in the Specific Register of France Competences.
Prerequisites: Before any training leading to a CLOE certification, the training institution conducts a placement test with results expressed according to the CEFR. Each partner center has its own placement tool. A level of A1 is required before training, and a minimum level of A2 is necessary to award a CLOE Certificate.
According to a predetermined scale, the training center sets a target result based on the desired level of proficiency and the candidate's professional activity.

1st Part: Written Assessment

Duration: 30 minutes – Adaptive online test

2nd Part: Oral Assessment

Duration: 15 minutes

The candidate is individually assessed by a CLOE Evaluator, with no prior preparation.

The interview is divided into 3 parts:

Introductory questions.
Scenario-based (everyday life, professional, or specific to the field).
Conversation (general theme, professional, or specific domain).

Skills assessed in oral communication:

Comprehension of statements, instructions, or questions from an English-speaking interlocutor.
Usage of common or professional vocabulary suitable for the communication context.
Mastery of the key grammatical structures required to construct coherent and varied sentences.
Natural oral communication.
Clear pronunciation.
Promotion of interaction and dialogue.

Linguaskill from Cambridge is a range of two innovative, fast, and reliable English language tests based on language skills used in everyday life situations.

Linguaskill General addresses situations from everyday life, both professional and personal, while Linguaskill Business focuses on administrative and commercial professional situations.

These tests are produced by Cambridge English, a department of the University of Cambridge, a leader in the field of English language certification.

Linguaskill is a flexible, comprehensive, and reliable tool. The tests assess up to 4 skills - listening and speaking, as well as reading and writing - and are entirely computer-based. Results are available in just 48 hours.

The Linguaskill tests from Cambridge are listed in the Specific Register of France Competences.

Analyzing written texts in English: To extract and convey useful and transferrable information to their professional activity.

Analyzing a dialogue or oral communication in English: To extract useful and transferrable elements related to various professional topics.

Writing texts in the English language: To communicate information to a professional audience on a range of diverse subjects.

Engaging in English language conversations: In both formal and informal contexts to convey messages within a professional environment.

The candidate can take all 3 English skills modules, or choose the one(s) they prefer from:

Listening and Reading Comprehension

Of course, it is highly recommended for every candidate to take all 3 modules, as the final certificate will hold much more value and provide an overall overview of your language skills. This can make a significant difference on your Resume.

The Listening and Reading Comprehension Module:

The Linguaskill test combines both listening and reading comprehension in the same module.

This module lasts between 60 and 85 minutes, and the number of questions varies because they are adaptive. The difficulty of the questions varies based on your previous answers. As you progress through this module, the test determines your exact level of comprehension through tailored and adjusted questions. Consequently, the test duration and number of questions may vary for each candidate.

For reading comprehension, the module includes short text reading and various related exercises: Fill-in-the-blanks, multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions, etc. The oral comprehension part involves listening to a short recording, after which the candidate must answer various questions.

The Written Expression Module:

This module lasts for 45 minutes and consists of two parts, each worth 50% of the written expression score.

The first part requires you to write an email of at least 50 words on a given topic.

The second part is the composition of a text of at least 180 words, also on a given topic.

The Oral Expression Module:

This final module lasts a total of 15 minutes, all on the computer. The candidate is equipped with a headset with a microphone to take this test. The questions are displayed on the screen, and the candidate must respond orally. Their responses are recorded.

The module comprises 5 different parts, each representing 20% of the oral expression score. These parts may include self-presentation, reading, speaking on a given topic, describing an image or graph, and answering questions on a given topic, among others.

The certification aims to validate listening (oral comprehension) and reading (written comprehension) skills in English for anyone seeking to obtain a certificate corresponding to a level on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) to enhance their professional qualifications. Depending on the score obtained in the test, a CEFR level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) is assigned to the candidate for each of the assessed skills (oral comprehension and written comprehension)

Analyzing Oral Communication:

The ability to analyze short or long oral communication, identifying key information (meaning, context, situation) and specific information (opinions, attitudes, intentions, agreements, disagreements) while considering vocabulary, speech rhythm, diction, and language. This analysis is carried out to apply the information in both everyday and professional contexts.

Analyzing Written Communication:

The ability to analyze short or long written communication, identifying key information and specific details within a text, including the author's opinions, intentions, and objectives. This analysis takes into account vocabulary, collocations, and grammatical structures to effectively utilize the information.

LanguageCert TLE (Test of English) consists of a single written exam, available in two versions covering two ranges of CEFR levels:

LanguageCert LTE A1-B1 Listening and Reading
LanguageCert LTE A1-C2 Listening and Reading

In both cases, the assessment of your abilities is divided into two parts, each subdivided into 4 subsections containing multiple-choice questions or fill-in-the-blanks for:

Listening comprehension (Listening).
Reading comprehension (Reading).

Listening comprehension aims to evaluate your ability to understand a discussion in English, while reading comprehension assesses your ability to comprehend a text in English. All LanguageCert LTE candidates take the same tests regardless of their language skills.

The exam duration and the number of questions vary depending on the format:

Paper-based LanguageCert Test of English (LTE) A1-B1 Listening & Reading: 30 minutes for 32 Listening questions; 40 minutes for 40 Reading questions.
Paper-based LanguageCert Test of English (LTE) A1-C2 Listening & Reading: 50 minutes for 50 Listening questions; 70 minutes for 60 Reading questions.
Computer-based LanguageCert Test of English (LTE) A1-C2 Listening & Reading in a test center: 25 minutes for 26 to 28 Listening questions; 35 minutes for approximately 30 Reading questions.
Online LanguageCert Test of English (LTE) A1-C2 Listening & Reading: 25 minutes for Listening; 35 minutes for Reading. The number of responses varies as it is an adaptive test.

The structure of LanguageCert LTE remains the same, but the total exam duration ranges from 1 to 2 hours.
